OUR LADY OF VICTORY

Letter from Fr. Reutter (New Mass Translations) Minimize
Dear Parishioners:

By now you have probably heard that, at the request of the Vatican, the English speaking bishops of the world have completed a new, richer and more accurate translation of the Mass from its original Latin text.
It was first translated over 40 years ago and the bishops have decided that they wanted to restore much of what was lost in that very hasty translation after the Second Vatican Council reformed the prayers of the Mass.
This new translation will first be used on November 27, 2011 (the first Sunday of Advent, when the Church begins her new liturgical year).
It will certainly be a great blessing to the whole Church and to Victory parish, as I think it will help the Mass come alive again as we pray it together. Some of the many advantages of the new translation are that it will make the connections between the Mass and the Bible more obvious; it has a more sacred tone; it is more poetic and beautiful; and it will keep our Mass in line with the Church around the world, because other language groups already have had more accurate translations for a long time.
The Archdiocese is working to help our parishes make the transition to the new translation seamlessly, and will provide resources in advance of the change. (For example, we will have tri-fold cards in the pews that have the changed texts, to help you avoid confusion for the first few weeks).
Our clergy, musicians and worship commission are already working behind the scenes to make this transition easy for you as well. We will be providing more detailed information closer to that time of transition.
Please feel free to browse this parish website, and don’t hesitate to contact the clergy or worship commission for more information.

You can also find some great “one stop shopping” resources by visiting the website of the United States Bishops conference, at www.usccb.org/romanmisal. It is chock full of good resources.

Yours in Christ, -Fr. Reutter
